Psychology Maziwisa heckled

Psychology Maziwisa, the Zanu-PF junior spokesperson, was given a hard time on Friday by Midlands State University (MSU) students after launching an unrestrained attack on opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Maziwisa was a panellist during a public lecture held at the Gweru-based university to discuss the government economic blue print ZimAsset.

Maziwisa attracted scorn after he diverted from the topic and lunged at Tsvangirai, who was not there to respond to his attack.

In his typical style, Maziwisa branded Tsvangirai "an ideologically bankrupt leader" who was responsible for the country's economic woes.

His sentiments backfired.

The students jeered him, with some asking him how ZimAsset will succeed considering that it has no funding.

Others asked him why the economy was sliding back to the 2008 levels when ZimAsset was supposed to be the panacea.

Maziwisa stuttered with the reply, leading students to jeer and heckle him further.

Thelma Moyo, a student, told the Daily News: "The problem with Maziwisa is that he under-estimated us. We are suffering here and after we graduate, it will be difficult to get a job. Instead of addressing all these problems, he decided to tell us about Tsvangirai and we refused to allow him to get away with that."

Samuel Gwenzi, Zimbabwe National Students Union national coordinator, said Maziwisa needed to wise up and stop taking students for granted.

"ZimAsset has no agenda and Maziwisa knows that and it is for this reason that he failed to articulate it at MSU," Gwenzi said.

"The direction we have taken since the launch of the document seems to be far from the destination we seek to reach by 2018.

"The government must face reality and desist from the blame game to achieve cheap political ends.

"Everyone is aware of Zanu-PF failures and its inability to bring sanity to the economy. Maziwisa can hallucinate all he wants but the fact of the matter is that Zanu-PF is clueless."
