Our President Elect to speak at leading science festival

Professor Jamie Hacker Hughes, President Elect of the British Psychological Society is to take part in a session on ‘The Psychology of War’ at the Cheltenham Science Festival next month.

Joining him in a session exploring the trauma of battle will be Captain Duncan Precious, the first clinical psychologist to be commissioned into the British Army, and the medical historian Emily Mayhew.

The session will take place on Friday 6 June (1pm-2pm) in the Pillar Room at Cheltenham Town Hall. You can book tickets via the festival website.

With over 300 events promoting dialogue about the latest ideas in science and engineering, Cheltenham is recognised across the world as one of the most important platforms for science communication and public engagement.

Professor Hacker Hughes, who has served in the Army himself, is our President Elect for 2014/5 and will serve as President in 2015/6. He is a consultant clinical psychologist and is currently visiting professor of military psychological therapies at Anglia Ruskin University, visiting professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire and director of the Veterans and Families Institute at Anglia Ruskin University.
