Dr. Samuel G. Chavels, 83, Of Mt. Kisco, Clinical School Psychologist

MT. KISCO, N.Y. - Dr. Samuel G. Chavels of Mt. Kisco died July 28. He was 83.

Dr. Chavels was born Aug. 24, 1929, to George and Panagiota Chavels. He served in the United States Army where he was a personnel specialist. He attended the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. He received his master’s degree in clinical psychology and education, two honoree doctorates, two Fulbright grants and a diplomatic post in Mexico City. 

Dr. Chavels was a director of The International Institute of Education in New York City. After that he was a clinical school psychologist for the Byram Hills School District for 27 years.

Dr. Cis survived by his wife, Luba; children, Alexandra, Anna and Sean; and four grandchildren.

Calling hours are Tuesday July 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home Inc. 288 East Main St., Mt. Kisco, NY 10549. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.  Wednesday July 30 at St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church. Interment will be private.
