College of New Rochelle Appoints New Director

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – West Harlem’s Dr. Paulette Starling was recently appointed director of The College of New Rochelle's School of New Resources, Rosa Parks Campus in Harlem, succeeding Dr. Barbara Adams.

“I am very excited about having an opportunity to work in the community in which I also reside,” said Starling. “This thriving and diverse campus affords students an opportunity to enroll in college, and also nurtures them until they successfully earn their bachelor’s degree.”

Starling earned a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of North Florida and a master's in counseling psychology from Columbia University’s Teacher College. She earned her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Penn State University. She is also a New York State licensed mental health counselor.

Starling has worked as an assistant professor, counselor and psychologist at various universities and colleges in New York and Maryland, and has served as administrative director of social services for the Department of Homeless Services in New York City.

She is the recipient of several research grants and has published articles in a number of peer-reviewed journals and books. As a volunteer, she has been involved in her community and worked with minorities, helping them gain access to mental health and health care facilities. She has also been a volunteer mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of New York City.

CNR’s Rosa Parks Campus provides access to the culturally rich Harlem community. The campus opened as an extension site in the spring of 1980, was established as a center in 1985 and became the Rosa Parks Campus in 1987. The campus’s communication center exposes students to the newest tools in technology and prepares them for full participation in society. Enrollment is approximately 600 students.
