Why you shouldn’t trust Facebook about relationships

In an article from Huffington Post, it notes a study that was recently released by the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin that talks about how when people post about there relationship on Facebook, it’s because they are insecure about their partner’s feelings.

The study was conducted by Lydia Emery a PhD student at Northwestern University who surveyed a group of 108 couples from a small university in Canada. Each partner was to keep a daily diary for two weeks documenting their feelings about the relationship. Then, the researchers looked at how each partner interacted with each other on Facebook and found that the numbers began to correlate when the diary would reveal insecure feelings and a Facebook post that followed.

Within the last few years, there have been studies about whether relationships have started and ended because of Facebook, claiming it “ruins romance.” However, data scientists are scarily accurate as to whether your relationship is a fling or the real deal based off information you post.
