All welcome to the third Suffolk Psychology Society Lecture

The Suffolk Psychology Society series has been created in order to enhance the knowledge of students and staff at UCS (University Campus Suffolk), as well as the wider public, by providing illuminating lectures from experts with world leading research in a range of fields of psychology.

The series continues on Wednesday (14 May 14) with a visit from Professor Angela Clow from the Department of Psychology at the University of Westminster.

Professor Clow, also referred to as ‘The Stress Professor’, will present a talk entitled ‘Links between physical activity, cortisol secretion and cognitive function’.

The lecture will look at how increased physical activity has been linked with having positive benefits for mental health, and will explore the ideas behind this link and also the impact that stress and well-being can have.

Professor Clow’s recent research has been concerned with studies examining relationships with ageing, cognitive function, attachment style, seasonality and health.

She has published extensively, including more than 115 peer-reviewed papers, five books, and 30 book chapters or reviews.

Dr. Fiorentina Sterkaj, lecturer in Psychology at UCS, said, “The Suffolk Psychology Society has provided a series of truly inspirational talks from highly experienced professionals. There has been a great interest from UCS staff and students and other psychology interested individuals within Suffolk and we are confident that this will continue to develop further.”

Previous lectures in the series have welcomed visitors such as Dr Dritan Nikolla from the University of Gloucestershire, and Professor Martin Conway, a Memory Expert from City University London.

This next lecture takes place on from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday 14 May, in the Waterfront Auditorium at UCS Ipswich.

All are welcome to attend – please register using the online form available on the UCS website: www.ucs.ac.uk/sps
