We are very excited to be offering these two new programs to children and families in the GTA.

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) November 26, 2012

The Speech Therapy Centres of Canada, a leading provider of speech therapy and language development services in Toronto and the surrounding area, is pleased to announce two exciting new services for its clients:

  •     LSVT Therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and other neurological conditions.
  •     Psychological Services for the effective assessment and treatment of psychological and behavioural issues in children and adults.

With the addition of these services, The Speech Therapy Centres of Canada’s management and clinical team solidifies their commitment to helping young children, adolescents and adults communicate more effectively. TSTCC’s complement of Speech-Language Pathologists, therapists and psychologists takes a strong collaborative approach. Their mandate is to provide their patients with the opportunity to work on language and speech development goals while simultaneously focusing on traditional learning skills and behavior management techniques.

”We are very excited to be offering these two new programs to children and families in the GTA.” says Jeanette Podolsky, Clinical Director at The Speech Therapy Centres of Canada Ltd.

LSVT LOUD™ is a proven and effective speech treatment for individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) and other neurological conditions. Developed in 1987, LSVT LOUD improves vocal loudness by stimulating the muscles of the voice box (larynx) and speech mechanism through a systematic hierarchy of exercises. The treatment does not train people for shouting or yelling; rather, LSVT LOUD™ uses loudness training to bring the voice to an improved, healthy vocal loudness with no strain.

LSVT treatment is administered in 16 sessions over a single month (four individual 60-minute sessions per week). This intensive mode of administration is consistent with theories of motor learning and skill acquisition, as well as with principles of neural plasticity (the capacity of the nervous system to change in response to signals) and is critical to attaining optimal results. Recently, LSVT LOUD has been applied to select individuals with stroke, multiple sclerosis, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy with positive outcomes.

Dr. Amanda Gold, a registered psychologist in the province of Ontario, will administer TSTCC’s psychological services. Dr. Gold's areas of practice include Clinical Psychology and Rehabilitation Psychology for children, adolescents and adults. Assessments will be provided for individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, behaviour problems, learning and developmental concerns, parenting issues and mood-related and emotional concerns such as anxiety and depression. Post-assessment treatments generally involve one-on-one therapy based on an individualized treatment plan.

People who feel they, their child or someone in their care can benefit from either LSVT Therapy or a psychological assessment can contact The Speech Therapy Centres of Canada online or via phone to set up an appointment for an assessment.
