Students – do you need financial assistance?

Promising 2nd year Psychology student Laurelle Morgan, studying at University of Wollongong, has just been named recipient of the Lockhart and District Education Grant for 2012, and more students are encouraged to apply for this financial assistance.

The Lockhart and District Education Fund was established in 2010 to provide much needed financial assistance and support to local youth to help them achieve their vocation aspirations and students are encouraged to apply.

The funds come directly from the local community - it’s their way of saying “we believe in you and want to support your goals”.

Living in regional Australia often makes it more expensive to achieve post high school education and vocation goals. Students may need to move away from home or travel long distances for work or study, incurring additional day to day living costs.

An application form is available at http://www.cef.org.au/education-f oundations-map-of-local-education -foundations-nsw-lockhart.html

Grants are awarded to support a diverse range of education and career pursuits including apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships, degrees, diplomas and certificate level studies or entry careers.

Grants are available to local youth who have lived and/or attended school in the region for the majority of their high school years. Applicants can be school leavers - years 10, 11 and 12 - or students 21 years or younger. The three selection criteria are:

* that you have a realistic goal;

* that you have shown commitment to achieving your goals in the past; and

* that you are in need of financial assistance to achieve your goal.
