Staten Island college graduates on parade

Maureen McDonough 

Maureen McDonough of West Brighton graduated from Le Moyne College, Syracuse, N.Y., with a degree in biology, cum laude.

Ms. Mc- 

Donough graduated from St. Joseph Hill Academy and is the daughter of Anne Marie and Thomas McDonough.

She was a member of the Beta Beta Beta National Honor Society in Biological Sciences and the Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology.

Ms. McDonough was awarded the Magis Award in Leadership, a Jesuit citation given to a senior who has developed their leadership and has used their position to have a positive impact on the lives of Le Moyne students.

She was a resident assistant for three years. She competed on Le Moyne's Division II women's swimming team for four years and was the captain during her senior year.

Ms. McDonough plans to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy. 

Lauren Burrier 

Lauren Burrier of Great Kills earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the State University of New York at New Paltz, magna cum laude.

Ms. Burrier is the daughter of Walter Burrier and Catherine Scotto.

She was a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society for Psychology students, where she was the president for two years.

Ms. Burrier has been accepted to the mental health counseling graduate program at SUNY New Paltz and will work toward a master's degree.

She also has been appointed as the coordinator of Oasis, the SUNY New Paltz on-campus peer counseling service. 

John C. Gilmore 

John C. Gilmore has graduated from the College of Staten Island with a degree in sociology and anthropology.

Gilmore was a volunteer at the Staten Island Mental Health Society, which provided him with the opportunity to work at PS 22 as a reading volunteer. He also worked at Regal Cinema as a part-time employee. He did this all while being a full-time student.

"I found myself to be inspired by [John's] hard work and dedication," said Marisol Lugo, Gilmore's fiance. "I must admit that it wasn't easy raising children, working and being a full-time student. Through gruesome hours and lots of studying, he was still able to complete his goal. In my eyes, John is my inspiration. This allows our children to see how important an education is."

Gilmore is now seeking employment in the mental health field. He also plans to go back to school to work toward his master's degree. 

Ashley M. Kramer 

Ashley Morgan Kramer of Great Kills has graduated from the

State University of New York at Oneonta with a bachelor of science degree in childhood education, magna cum laude.

Ms. Kramer is the daughter of Debbi and Bert Kramer. Ms. Kramer was on the dean's list for four years and was the public relations manager and a member of Oneonta's Habitat for Humanity.

She has been accepted into the Teach for America program; she will be teaching first grade to children in East Cleveland, Ohio. 

Francesca S. Hoff 

Francesca S. Hoff of Elm Park has earned a bachelor of science degree in television and film from St. John's University, Grymes Hill campus.

Ms. Hoff is the daughter of Frank Hoff and the late Geraldine Hoff.

She was on the dean's list and was a member of Theta Phi Alpha national sorority. Ms. Hoff held several chair positions

as well as being the treasurer of the sorority.

She graduated from Port Richmond High School and was a captain in the Army JROTC program, the junior reserve officer training corps, and was a member of the Collegiate Academy.

Ms. Hoff is currently a production assistant with Lake Films. Ms. Hoff plans to pursue a career in film production. 

Melanie Langworthy 

 Melanie Rei Langworthy of Sunnyside has graduated from the Macaulay Honors College at the College for Staten Island with a bachelor of arts degree in linguistics, a bachelor of arts degree in dramatic literature and a bachelor of science degree in dramatic arts, cum laude.

Ms. Langworthy, the daughter of Laura Langworthy, has studied abroad in Paris, France, and Tokyo, Japan.

She has been highly involved in the drama department, working as a member of the stage crew for CSI's production

of "Delirium." She acted in CSI's production of "St. Joan of the Stockyards" and acted and stage-managed the student production of "The Dying Gaul" and worked to create "Tempestas: Scenes" from Shakespeare's the "Tempest."

Ms. Langworthy has also served as a mentor for freshmen during her junior year and was a dean's list student.

She has received the Macaulay Honors College Award for Academic Excellence as well as the English Creative Writing Award.

Ms. Langworthy now will attend Pace University's Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, where she was given two scholarships -- the Pace University President's Graduate Merit Scholarship and the Deloitte Touche LLP Merit Scholarship.

Ms. Langworthy plans to pursue a career in book publishing as an editor. 

Jessica L. Wavrecan 

Jessica L. Wavrecan of Graniteville graduated from Rutgers University's School of Social Work with a master's degree in nonprofit public management social work. She also earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the College of Staten Island.

Ms. Wavrecan, the daughter of Christine Scordato, is a graduate of Tottenville High School.

She finished college with a 3.875 GPA, which got her on the dean's list at Rutgers University; she also was on the dean's list at College of Staten Island for all four years.

She plans to pursue a career as a licensed social worker and she is currently employed with a child welfare agency. 

Paul B. Pecorino 

Paul B. Pecorino of Oakwood Heights has graduated from Pace University's Manhattan campus with a bachelor of business administration degree in public accounting with a minor in finance degree, cum laude.

Pecorino was a member of the national accounting and finance business honor society Beta Alpha Psi.

He qualified for the GPA requirements, and through participation with Beta Alpha Psi, he completed more than 25 hours of community service per semester combined with attending professional networking events needed for induction.

Pecorino held two internships in accounting and auditing with New York Life Insurance Co. and upon graduation, was offered a full-time position with the company as an assistant auditor. 

Dina Montemarano 

Dina Montemarano of Eltingville has graduated from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., with a bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies.

Ms. Montemarano, the daughter of Michael and Phyllis Montemarano, is a graduate of St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School.

She was named to the dean's list throughout college and was the recipient of the Gordon A. Rich Scholarship and the Walter F. Blaine Scholarship.

Ms. Montemarano was a member of the women's boxing club and participated in the Baraka Bouts Tournament during her sophomore, junior and senior years, and was captain in her senior year. As captain she helped to raise more than $30,000 for the Holy Cross Missions education initiative in East Africa.

Ms. Montemarano also served on the Lyons Hall Council and was commissioner of Freshman Orientation.

Ms. Montemarano studied in Rome, Italy, at John Cabot University during her junior year and traveled throughout Europe.

She worked part-time during the school year and volunteered weekly at Brown Intermediate School in South Bend with the Junior Greats Book Program, where she led weekly group discussions on short stories and poems to a seventh-grade English class.

Ms. Montemarano spent a summer volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and assisted in teaching an English as a second language class to adults at Lazarus House Ministries.

She worked as an intern at Goldman Sachs Co. for two summers and was offered a full-time position as an analyst upon graduation, but decided to volunteer with Teach for America for two years.

Ms. Montemarano will be teaching students at a charter school in New York City. 

Daniela Giambrone 

Daniela Giambrone of Huguenot has earned a doctorate degree in pharmacy from St. John's University.

Ms. Giambrone, the daughter of Al and Rosemarie Giambrone, graduated from St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School in 2006.

Ms. Giambrone was a member of the Lambda Phi Sorority.

She will be employed as a pharmacist for CVS in New Jersey. 
