Social justice dept, GFSU tie-up to address children’s issues

AHMEDABAD: The officials of Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) will collaborate with the state government's department of social justice and empowerment to understand children-related issues for their better inclusion in society.
Officials from the agency dealing with children suggested that forensic psychology be used to help children with learning disabilities.
The day was constituted in Ahmedabad in 2011, during an international conference to recognize the importance of the discipline.
She said that the field has got much-required recognition as a separate discipline which will help in its promotion and research opportunities.

The officials were participating in a seminar 'Social Conditioning for Social Empowerment' at GFSU to mark Forensic Psychology Day on Thursday. The day was constituted in Ahmedabad in 2011, during an international conference to recognize the importance of the discipline.

The participants at the event included Dr J M Vyas, director general of GFSU, M S Dagur, additional chief secretary of the department of social justice and empowerment, Jagruti Pandya, chairperson of Gujarat state commission for the protection of child rights, Anil Pratham, IGP of state CID (crime), Tushar Dholakia, CEO of Gujarat State Child Protection Society and Professor C R Mukundan, director of Institute of Behavioural Science, GFSU.

"Gujarat's directorate of forensic sciences (DFS) is renowned for development of the discipline. Officials from the agency dealing with children suggested that forensic psychology be used to help children with learning disabilities.

We are already working with student groups and it will be a great opportunity for practitioners. We also discussed how forensics can be used for missing kids," said a GFSU official.

RSU director to be felicitated

Dr S L Vaya, director of department of research and development, Raksha Shakti University, will be felicitated with the Forensic Clinical Psychology Award for 2015 at the 42nd national annual conference of the Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists (IACP) to be held at Imphal, Manipur in February. Dr Vaya is known for handling a number of high-profile crime cases in India.
