Parent Clinic: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Psychology Department will host a Parent Clinic by appointment 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Lincoln Heights Academy, 1900 Newcastle St., Charlotte. Consultations are free and last 45 minutes. School psychologists will be available to offer parents guidance on how to manage challenging children’s issues, such as anxiety, bullying, peer conflicts or other social and emotional issues which can impact academic performance. Spaghetti dinner: The Bailey Band Boosters is planning a spaghetti dinner fundraiser 6-7 p.m. Oct. 29 in the cafeteria. Salad, pasta in marinara sauce, Italian garlic bread, cookies and lemonade or iced tea will be served. Donations of food items are needed. Record book fair: The Davidson Elementary School Fall Scholastic Book Fair raised more than $20,000 for the school. An average of five books per student were bought with an average of 905.05 hours of voluntary reading logged and 742,140 minutes logged for the entire school.
Schoolmates Partnership Continues: The School Mates program with partner school Winding Springs Elementary kicked off recently with a staff appreciation event at Winding Springs. The Davidson Elementary School Mates Committee has planned three events. In addition to the staff appreciation, the group will organize a student pen pal program and ArtFest collaborations. Donations for Homecoming Dance: Donations of nautical-themed and other decorative items for the Homecoming Dance, to be held Oct. 26, are needed by 2:15 p.m. Oct. 25. “Reflections” contest: The deadline for submissions to the National Parent-Teacher Association “Reflections” contest is 2:15 p.m. Nov. 7. Submissions should be brought to the front office. The theme is “Believe, Dream, Inspire.” Entries should be original works in the following categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Musical Competition, Dance Choreography and Film Production. Winners will receive prizes and can proceed to district, state and national levels. “Alice in Wonderland”: The play will be presented at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 and 2 in the auditorium. Tickets are $7. The play is appropriate for ages 12 and older.
Concert: Electric violinist Mark Wood will offer a workshop for local strings students Nov. 4 and 5 in the auditorium followed by a performance with local high and middle school musicians at 7 p.m. Nov. 5.
