Rock Falls High School March Student of the Month: Katherine Krone

Favorite class: Psychology, because I love the material, and I want to become a psychologist.

Least-favorite class: Math, because it is more difficult for me to understand numbers than semantics and language.

Favorite teacher: Mrs. Purdy, chemistry, because she really knows the material and she’s always more than happy to help students outside of class. She’s like my at-school mom.

School activities: French Club, B.L.I.N.D. (Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die), RFHS Dance Team, class officers, and National Honor Society.

Civic, church, volunteer or other activities: ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) Youth Gathering, Red Cross blood donor and volunteer, student ambassador, YMCA Adventure Day, Toys for Tots, Let’s Feed Our Children, Summer Splash, and American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State.

Do you have a job? I work and Bath and Body Works at the mall in Sterling, and I absolutely love it there.

What will you do after high school? I’m attending North Central College in Naperville, and I’ll double major in psychology and criminal justice. I hope to eventually become a forensic psychologist.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you will never use? I don’t think that I’ll ever really use most of the history that I have learned. I know it’s important to know historic events, but most of the historic events I’ve learned do not seem relevant to my career.

What kind of music are you listening to? I listen to almost everything: country, alternative, hip-hop, the “top hits,” and almost anything else.

What is your favorite ...

App: My Gmail.

Food: French fries.

Game: Apples to Apples.

Actor: Channing Tatum.

Movie: "Mean Girls" or any of the "Step Up" movies.

TV show: "Law and Order: SVU."

Do you have a hobby? I love to read whenever I have time, but I also dance.

What’s the one thing in your life you can’t do without? My phone, as sad as that is. It’s like my lifeline.

What is your advice for surviving high school? Find a strong and steady support system, even if it’s just your parents or one close friend. That support will keep you sane during the toughest parts of high school.

What scares you? Frogs. I can’t explain why, I just have an irrational fear of frogs.

What’s something about you that nobody knows? I’ve never learned to ride a bike.

If you could try any job for a day, what would it be? I would try out my dream career as a forensic psychologist or an FBI criminal investigator, just to make sure it is 100 percent what I want to do for the rest of my life.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Anywhere that is warm and has a beautiful beach. I would just lay out and relax.

What is the last good book you read? “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell, the only survivor of SEAL Team 10. It was eloquently written and such a heart-wrenching, true story.
