Retired Army Ranger to speak at Buena Vista University

STORM LAKE, Iowa | A nationally known author and retired Army Ranger will speak to educators and law-enforcement personnel in Storm Lake this week.

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman will speak to educators about school safety on Tuesday at Buena Vista University. On Wednesday, he will speak with law enforcement and military members about responding to violence.

More than 350 people are scheduled to attend the lecture, according to event sponsor Storm Lake Public Safety. The event is not open to the public.

A former West Point psychology professor, Grossman studies the killing in war, psychological costs of war, causes of violent crime and healing of victims of violence.

One of his books, "On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society," was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
