Researchers say chewing gum can chase that catchy song out of your head …

There’s an easy solution for fighting off those godawful earworms researchers at the University of Reading have discovered: Chewing gum!

As the recent study found, moving your jaw can create just enough of a distraction to combat even the most hellish of song lyrics stuck in your head. Think: “Play Hard” by David Guetta and “Payphone” by Maroon 5.

Dr. Phil Beaman  from the University’s School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences said that there is still much more research to be conducted to this end — and we at Salon have a few ideas of songs to test out exactly how scientific this theory this.

Like, does bubble gum honestly stand a chance up against the impossibly catchy “Kimmy Schmidt ” intro song? They Alive, damnit! It’s a miracle! Nice try, scientists.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of incurable earworms. Basically, just call an exorcist.
