Psychologist vs Psychiatrist

Psychologist vs Psychiatrist

Psychology is the systematic investigation of the human mind, including behaviour and cognition. It thus encompasses both normal and abnormal behaviour.

To pursue a career in Psychology, students have to complete post graduation or PhD in psychology or one of its specializations.

Psychiatry is a branch of medicine dealing with mental illness.

Psychiatry is different from psychology as the individuals practising Psychiatry are physicians or MDs who have completed at least four years of post graduate training.

One of the important differences between both careers is that psychiatrists can prescribe medications while psychologists cannot.
