‘Proud’ Newcastle boss Steve McClaren joins son Josh for A Level celebrations

Toon boss Steve McClaren is among the North East’s many proud parents today after his lad Josh bagged the A level grades he needed.

And Josh, 18, is following his dad from Teesside to Newcastle. He’ll study psychology at Northumbria University from September - and joked that his dad took the job in the Toon just to keep an eye on him.

“I’d picked Northumbria University before he took the job,” he smiled, adding: “I am little bit worried he’s going to be keeping an eye on me.”

But he added: “It’s good to have family there, everybody is close.”

Steve accompanied Josh to Yarm School, near Stockton, this morning to pick his results up.

The Yarm teenager achieved a B in psychology and Cs in design and technology, physical education and general studies.

“Dad is very proud,” said Josh. “And I’m happy as anything that I got the grades, Northumbria was the one I wanted to go to.”

Josh is still unsure what career he wants to pursue after he completes his psychology degree.

“Psychology can open lots of different doors, possibly sports psychology, or teaching?” he said.
