Professor releases book on social education

University of Houston-Clear Lake Associate Professor of Women’s Studies and Psychology Kim Case announces the publication of her latest book “Deconstructing Privilege: Teaching and Learning as Allies in the Classroom,” which addresses systemic group privilege in education and includes essays edited by Case. Published by Routledge, Case’s book presents strategies for teaching topics such as race, gender, sexuality, social class, and religious differences and provides scholarship and practical applications to aid faculty in becoming effective in the classroom.

Merging scholarly research with real-life accounts, Case combines historical research, theoretical principles and intervention strategies to raise students’ awareness about privilege based on social identity. In addition, interdisciplinary contributions from various academic fields such as psychology, sociology, women’s studies, ethnic studies, social work, education, family therapy and law provide multiple perspectives for instructors.

Case is also the director of the Teaching-Learning Enhancement Center and Applied Social Issues graduate sub-plan. For more information about Case and her publications, visit http://hsh.uhcl.edu/faculty/Case/bio.html.
