Local Experts to Collaborate on Bullying Course for Educators – Virtual

FULLERTON, Calif., Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) offers a resource for school administrators, teachers and staff looking to combat bullying on K-12 campuses. The online course, "Understanding and Addressing Bullying," is scheduled to begin October 28.

Dr. Karyl Ketchum, Assistant Professor of Women's Gender Studies at Cal State Fullerton, is the driving force behind the development of this unique online course. She, along with local experts, has contributed to create the multimedia curriculum covering the fields of education, psychology, gender studies, health, public policy, and law:

  • James Gilliam, Deputy Executive Director of the ACLU of Southern California
  • Dr. Judy Chiasson, Office of HR, Diversity and Equity at the LA Unified School District
  • Dr. Ronni Sanlo, Author and Lecturer
  • Sheila Kuehl, Former State Senator and Assemblywoman
  • Dr. Kevin O'Grady, Executive Director, The Center OC
  • Dr. Kris Beal, Associate Professor, Psychology, Cal State Fullerton
  • Jodi Davis, Assistant Professor, Women's Gender Studies, Cal State Fullerton

Rather than a typical classroom format, the students are taught via video lectures and interviews with these key advocates, along with stories from teachers and administrators who have successfully addressed bullying. Real-life student stories serve to remind participants of the continued need for change. A variety of reading materials is also required.

The course is offered by Cal State Fullerton's University Extended Education and will run October 28 to November 29, 2013. The cost is $210. To register online, or for more information, visit http://extension.fullerton.edu/bullying or call 657-278-2611.
