JWCC students to host contest to benefit local food pantries

QUINCY -- Psychology students from John Wood Community College are sponsoring a "Pack the Pumpkin" competition for local food pantries.

The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12.

Students will create large "pumpkins" made of cardboard boxes to be placed at both Hy-Vee stores and Wal-Mart.

People are encouraged to donate their nonperishable items at any of these three locations. Teams of JWCC psychology students will be competing at each location to get the most donations possible.

Local food pantries benefiting from the event include Quanada, Ladies of Charity and JWCC's campus food pantry for students in need.
