Gender equity is topic of next Faculty Speakers Series
Clare Conry-Murray, assistant professor of psychology at Penn State Beaver, will present “Culture and Development: Effects on Reasoning about Gender Equity,” noon to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, room 16, in the campus Student Union Building. The program, which is free and open to the public, is the first in the Spring 2013 Faculty Speakers Series.
Conry-Murray’s presentation will include information drawn from her ongoing research into gender issues. Previously, she has delivered programs on gender issues for males and females, including gender essentialism, gender norms, gender-stereotypes, and cultural traditions.
She was a member of last year’s Beaver campus Undergraduate Research Fair Planning Committee and is chairing the committee this year.
Conry-Murray has taught a variety of courses, including psychology of gender, psychology of parenting, moral development, child development, multicultural psychology in America, and social and emotional development.
Her professional affiliations are varied and include the American Psychological Association, the Jean Piaget Society, and the Society for Research in Child Development.
Conry-Murray, who joined Penn State in 2008, holds a doctorate in human development and education from the University of California at Berkeley, a master's degree in secondary education in urban schools, English from Boston College and a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in humanities from the Evergreen State College in Washington. She has taught at Berkeley, the University of Rochester and the University of Massachusetts.
