LETU psychology students win awards


Seven LeTourneau University psychology students presented original research as poster presentations and/or talks at the seventh annual East Texas Psi Chi Student Psychology Research Conference recently. Two of those students won merit awards.

Emily Johnson won an Award of Merit in the Student Poster Competition, and Justin Marshall won an Award of Merit in the Student Talk Competition, making this the fifth consecutive year a LeTourneau student has captured an award. Other students who presented their research included Megan Korthals, Miranda Lamb, Chelsea Mires, Kyli Parsons, and Kristen Stanley.

“We are very proud of our LETU psychology students for the excellent research they have done this year,” psychology professor Vicki Sheafer siad of the students, all of whom were in psychology classes dealing with statistics and individual research and research models that Sheafer teaches.

Kiessling to graduate from Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Oregon – Oregon State University will conduct its 145th commencement June 14 in Reser Stadium.

The commencement speaker will be Ann A. Kiessling, director of Bedford Stem Cell Research Foundation. She also will receive an honorary doctorate from the university.

Patrick C. Hiller of Longview will earn a bachelor of science degree in environmental science.

Palmer graduates from Sterling College

STERLING, Kansas. - On May 17, Devondrick Marquis Palmer of Tatum, was one of 146 students to graduate from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. Palmer received a bachelor of arts in communication and theater arts: communication. He is the son of Rachel Moore.

Local students graduate from Austin College

SHERMAN — Austin College conducted its commencement for some 255 members of the Class of 2014 as well as 15 students who completed master’s degrees through the Austin Teacher Program.

All Austin College undergraduate students must complete a major and a minor or two majors. Some students combine fields of study to create an interdisciplinary major, with faculty guidance and approval, suited to their specific areas of interest.

Jacqueline Sanchez of Gilmer, daughter of Josefa and Ismael Sanchez, earned a bachelor of arts degtree with a major in Art and a minor in Biology.

Conner W Skinner of Hallsville, son of Chuck Skinner and Janine Frazzini, earned a bachelor of arts degree with a major in theater and minor in philosophy.

Longview natives graduate from DBU

DALLAS – Three Longview natives recently graduated from Dallas Baptist University.

Kimberly Sanders Daniels earned a bachelor of arts and sciences degree.

Skyler Paige Sexton graduated with a bachelor of science in early childhood education.

Sarah Kathryn Dickerson earned a bachelor of arts in communication theory. During her time at DBU, Dickerson was a member of the Thread Leadership Team and DBU Ambassadors, and she was a leader of the Baptist Student Ministries. She also was honored with the Emerging Student Leader Award as well as Who's Who Among University Students.

Washburn U. announces dean's honor roll

TOPEKA, Kansas - Washburn University has released the names of students who were named to the spring semester dean's honor roll. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 graded semester credit hours and attain a semester grade point average between 3.4 and 3.99.

Stefan Rabenhorst of Longview earned this honor.

ETBU humanities school awards honors

MARSHALL - The School of Humanities at East Texas Baptist University honored its outstanding students during its Honors Chapel ceremony on April 23. Students from the Department of Communication, Languages and Literature, and History and Political Science were recognized for their achievement during the 2013-2014 Academic Year.

ETBU releases 2014 spring dean’s list

MARSHALL – East Texas Baptist University has recognized its students for outstanding academic achievement during the 2014 spring semester with the release of the dean’s list with honors and dean’s list. The dean’s list with honors are students who have a 3.5 grade point average or above. The dean’s list is students who have a 3.25 to 3.49 grade point average.
