Cut Pacifier Use, they can lead to Emotional Problems in Boys

Pacifiers can lead to emotional problems especially in your baby boys, warn researchers. In their recent statements, researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison have suggested parents to restrict the use of pacifiers upon their children because they have found evidences of damage to their emotional development especially in baby boys.

They explained that the use of such common objects do not allow the baby to experiment different facial expressions when they are very young and thus they are put at higher risks of the damages.

Above are the conclusions drawn after conducting 3 separate investigations in which the researchers noticed risks of impairment caused due to frequent use of pacifiers. The trial has been published in Basic and Applied Social Psychology.

In the past, we have heard the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommending restricting the amount of pacifier use among babies and children but they were primarily done to encourage breast feeding or sometime associated with dental abnormalities.

Ms. Paula Niedenthal, lead author of the study and a professor of psychology at UW-Madison, explained: "When a baby has a pacifier in their mouth, it is difficult for them to be able to copy the actions of the adults or children they are trying to mimic, therefore making it harder for them to learn to express their own emotions”.
