13 students are on track to graduate with a 4.0 GPA this year at Chippewa Falls High School.
 

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- "AP Calculus, AP Psychology and AP Chemistry are just some of the classes on David Arneberg's daily class schedule at Chippewa Falls High School this year.

"I love math and science," he said.

It is tough - but even though he is in what is called Advanced Placement or "AP" courses, Arneberg has maintained a 4.0 GPA since his first day of high school and is in the top three of his graduating class.

"It can get stressful because if you lose it you’re done because there are so many people with 4.0's," he said.

He is not alone. This year at Chippewa Falls High School, there is 12 other students that also have perfect marks.

The school has even had to turn to ACT scores to determine the top three students in the class.

Guidance Counselor Sally Holldorf says many high-achieving students like David are getting their perfect scores in tough AP classes.

"I would say many of them have taken two, three, five or seven depending on their level of interest in certain areas," Holldorf said.

She says on average the senior class has usually had five to seventeen students with perfect GPA's over the last five years.

It is a number she says has crept up since she began her guidance counselor careers 28 years ago.

"I think schools have done a better job of engaging students, finding courses they would think students would find challenging," she said.

"There's a lot of homework in AP classes," said Brian Crocker, a student at Chippewa Falls High School.

He also has a 4.0 GPA. He recommends students work hard but not forget about other opportunities and moments exclusive to high school.

"I've enjoyed soccer, tennis and things like that," he said.
