YSU names new education department dean

YOUNGSTOWN — Charles L. Howell, associate professor and chairman of the Department of Leadership, Educational Psychology and Foundations at Northern Illinois University, has been named dean of the Beeghly College of Education at Youngstown State University.

Howell, chosen after a national search, will take the position July 1.

He replaces Philip Ginnetti, who left YSU in July 2010 for another position. Mary Lou DiPillo has served as interim dean since Ginnetti’s departure.

“Dr. Howell brings to YSU and to Youngstown wide-ranging experience as an administrator and as an educator who is committed to his faculty, to serving the university and to partnering with the community to improve local school districts,” said Ikram Khawaja, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. “We are pleased to welcome him to the YSU team.”
