Josh Welch, originally from Wolverhampton, is accused of attacking a 17-year-old boy with a kitchen knife at around 4.20am on Thursday morning.

The 22-year-old, of Heathfield Road in Handsworth and who was studying at Birmingham City University, is charged with one count of attempted murder.

He will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.

The 17-year-old male youth – who was found collapsed in St Peter’s Road, Handsworth – remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition having suffered multiple stab wounds to his back and head.
