Watchung Psychological Associates’ Michael Zito Recieves Sports Psychology …

Michael Zito, Ph.D., a psychologist with Associates in Psychological Care in Morristown, and Watchung Psychological Associates in Warren, was recently designated a Certified Consultant by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), the international professional organization of sport and exercise psychology.

In earning this certification, Dr. Zito met required AASP standards of education and training in the sport sciences and psychology and undergone a rigorous review process.

In addition to his private practice work, Dr. Zito is an adjunct psychology professor at Montclair State University, where he also serves as a consultant to the women’s soccer and softball teams.

In his role as a sport psychologist, Dr. Zito provides clinical and sport psychology services to a varied population. Throughout his career, he has counseled athletes of all ages in numerous sports, including lacrosse, baseball, softball, tennis, football, soccer, basketball, hockey, wrestling and golf.

His specialization areas include performance anxiety management for individuals and teams utilizing performance enhancement techniques such as imagery, mental skills and focus. Dr. Zito has authored a chapter in the 2010 Routledge Handbook of Applied Sport Psychology. Dr. Zito obtained a doctorate in psychology, with a specialization in marriage and family counseling, from Seton Hall University.

He received his master’s and undergraduate degrees in psychology from Montclair State College.

In his free time, Dr. Zito enjoys running, hiking, basketball and soccer.
