Want Sexier Skin? Eat More Fruits and Vegetables

According to a new study, those that partake in heavy portions of fruits and vegetables have a more attractive, healthy-looking appearance.

“We found that within a six-week period, fluctuation in fruit and vegetable consumption was associated with skin-color changes,” said lead researcher Ross Whitehead, from the School of Psychology at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

“Eat more fruits and veggies to improve your appearance,” he added.

To arrive at this conclusion, researchers studied the fruit and vegetable intake of 35 participants over a six-week period; noting that redness and yellowness in skin increased as the healthy grub was consumed.

Why? Well all plants contain carotenoids, or organic pigments, which are distributed to the skin’s surface as we eat more vegetables and fruit; creating that “healthy glow” attributed to good health.

In a second study, the researchers found that an increase in pigments also increased a subject’s attractive properties.

“Our study suggests that an increase in fruit and veggie consumption of around three portions, sustained over a six-week period, is sufficient to convey perceptible improvements in the apparent healthiness and attractiveness of facial skin,” Whitehead told HealthDay. “Conversely, those [participants] that worsened their diet became paler.”

So there you have it – want to land more dates, feel better, and get that healthy glow without wasting cash on makeup and other chemical fixes? Eat more veggies and fruit.

Oh – and here’s another quick tip: A 2005 study found that those that added avocado to their diets “significantly enhanced the subjects’ absorption of all carotenoids tested.” So, faster results in less time! Get munching!
