LAS VEGAS – (Feb. 10, 2013) Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada (VMSN), announced recently that Harvard-trained clinical psychologist, Cortney S. Warren, Ph.D., is now a board member. VMSN is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the uninsured with access to preventative and comprehensive medical care.

As a VMSN board member, Warren will assist in initiatives focused on improving and safe-guarding the psychological wellbeing of the organization’s patients. She will also play a big role as VMSN prepares to launch its mental health services.

Warren is a licensed clinical psychologist and associate professor of psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She moved to Las Vegas in 2006 after receiving her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Texas AM; University and completing a clinical internship at McLean Hospital, an affiliate of the Harvard Medical School. Her expertise lies in cross-cultural psychotherapeutic practice and assessment, with a specialty in eating disorders and obesity.

“Our society has become progressively and acutely aware of the importance of mental health in a person’s overall wellness,” said VMSN founder and president, Dr. Florence Jameson. “This is why we are so enthusiastic about expanding our services to include mental health care. We are extremely grateful to have Cortney’s expertise to ensure that we can provide the best care for our patients.”

VMSN plans to launch its mental health services in its future downtown clinic. The organization’s Paradise Park clinic serves as a medical home for more than 2,500 Southern Nevadans. The opening of the new clinic will not only allow VMSN to serve more patients, it will also permit the organization to expand its services to include dental, vision and mental health care.

A clinic in downtown Las Vegas would make quality health care more accessible for the city’s uninsured. Although VMSN has secured a location for its new facility on Martin Luther King Boulevard and Madison Avenue, they are still raising funds to break ground and begin construction.
