Vincent Samuel reaps just HSC reward – Canterbury

HE spent most of last year buried beneath his school books.

But after receiving a first round university offer earlier this month, Greenacre's Vincent Samuel said it was all worth the effort.

Mr Samuel, a former student of Holy Spirit College at Lakemba, has been accepted to study a combined Bachelor of Psychology/ Diploma of Education course at Macquarie University.

"It's definitely a relief, even though I knew I had the marks," Mr Samuel said.

The 18-year-old originally wanted to pursue a teaching career, but after a solid performance in his HSC year and an ATAR of 86.3 decided to aim for psychology instead.

"Psychology really appeals to me because it's so applicable to our day-to-day lives," he said.

"It can teach you quite a lot about people but also a lot about yourself I think."

Mr Samuel decided to add an education diploma to his study load as another potential option.

He credits a balanced subject load in his HSC year - Advanced English, General Maths, Religion, Ancient history, PDHPE and Biology - as having kept him interested and engaged.

Across NSW this year, 55,804 main round offers have been made overall, which is a decrease of 3184 on last year.

However, the University of Western Sydney, which includes a Bansktown campus, made the most offers of any institution in the state - more than 12,000.

Late round university offers are released tomorrow followed by the final round of offers on Wednesday, February 6.
