AN UNEXPLAINED white light was seen over Hastings town centre last night.

Cars pulled over in the street after spotting the light, which appeared at 10.20pm in the sky.

Psychology student Chris Syratt, 23, stopped his car and pulled out his iPhone to record the light, which he said looked similar to the flame on a hot air balloon – but he couldn’t seen any actual balloon.

Mr Syratt said: "It moved and hovered, slowly, gracefully.

"I was stunned - I’ve never seen anything like it. After five minutes it just disappeared into the clouds"

Mr Syratt was visiting his dad, a chief flight instructor, in Hastings.

His father could not explain the source of the white light.

Mr Syratt added: "It’s a total mystery – it could have been a ball of lightning or something more mysterious, who knows?"
