Professor Jamie Hacker Hughes, currently Visiting Professor at Anglia Ruskin’s Veterans and Families Institute (VFI), has been made an Honorary Professor of Psychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University in acknowledgement of his contribution to the development of military psychology.

Professor Hacker Hughes is the current President of the British Psychological Society, which recently entered into a collaboration with its Russian counterpart, and was in Moscow to speak at several conferences and events about the rehabilitation of veterans of local conflicts.

In recent months Professor Hacker Hughes has travelled to St Petersburg and Milan, the latter for a meeting of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations, cementing links with the Russian Psychological Society during these visits.

The honorary fellowship was conferred by Professor Yuri Zinchenko, the President of the Russian Psychological Society and the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Professor Hacker Hughes also received a medal from Professor Aleksander Karayani, Head of Military Psychology for the Russian Psychological Society.

Professor Hacker Hughes said: “Veterans of military conflicts in countries across the world suffer similar psychological health issues and it is vital that Britain works with other countries to help understand the problems faced and to influence policy to change things for the better.

“I was only too pleased to come to Moscow to take part in this important event and am humbled to have received the honour of Honorary Professor of Psychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University. I hope to be able to forge links with Anglia Ruskin’s VFI to help military veterans all over the world.”
