UNO psychologist wins lifetime achievement award for youth research

Paul Frick, a professor of psychology at the University of New Orleans, has won a lifetime achievement award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy, UNO announced Friday (Jan. 16). The Robert D. Hare Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor the organization bestows.

Frick will accept the award in June during the 2015 biennial Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy conference in Chicago, Ill.

The award committee commended Frick for "his pioneering contributions to scientific understanding of psychopathy and antisocial behavior in youth," according to a UNO news release. He was also recognized for his research on psychopathic tendencies in youth.

The chairman of UNO's psychology department, Frick studies the ways that youth develop antisocial behavior and aggression as a means of treating adolescent patients.

His work has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the John T. and Catherine D. MacArthur Foundation.

Frick is also a previous recipient of the MacArthur Foundation's Champion for Change in Juvenile Justice Award for the state of Louisiana.
