ALLAHABAD: In a bid to clear its backlog vacant teaching positions and to maintain an ideal Teacher-Taught Ratio (TTR) on the campus, the authorities of Allahabad University have finally advertised over 500 teaching positions. Divided into planned (i.e. which were sanctioned to AU during 11th Five Year Plan) and non-planned (i.e. which were sanctioned earlier but were lying vacant), chunk of these positions are for Assistant Professor commonly known as Lecturers.

Of these positions, a total of 318 positions are for assistant professors, 203 under planned while rest being under non-plan. Likewise, AU would be needing the services of 119 Associate Professors too wherein 31 positions are under plan posts while the remaining 88 are for non-plan posts. Similarly, for the post of Professors, AU has invited applications for 67 positions, 17 professors under plan posts while the rest 50 under non-plan.

For the posts of assistant professors (Lecturers), under plan posts, AU has vacancy in almost all the departments of the Arts faculty. This includes 8 in department of Ancient History, 4 in Anthropology, 2 in Arabic Persian, 7 in Education, 2 English, 6 in Geography, 4 in Hindi, 5 in Journalism Mass Communication, 8 in Medieval Modern History, 2 in Music, 8 in Philosophy, 4 in Physical Education, 7 in Political Science, 2 in Psychology, 7 in Sanskrit, 4 each in School of Language, Sociology and Visual arts and 2 in Urdu.

Similarly, among the vacancy of assistant professors in commerce faculty (plan posts) there are 9 positions in Commerce Business Administration while 7 in Economics. In the Law faculty there are a total of 9 vacancies of assistant professors.

Likewise, in the vacancy of assistant professors in various department of science faculty, the positions include 7 in Botany, 3 in Bio-chemistry, 8 in Chemistry, 2 each in Defence and Strategic Studies and Earth Planetary Science 02, 8 in Electronics

Communication, 4 in Home Science, 7 in Mathematics, 8 in Physics, 2 in Statistics and 7 in Zoology.

Vacancy of assistant professors in various centres of AU, the teaching positions include 4 in Centre of Behavioral Cognitive Science, 3 in Gandhian Studies, 1 in K Banerji Centre of Atmospheric Ocean Studies, 5 in Centre of Bio-informatics, 3 in Centre of Bio-technology, 4 in Centre of Environmental Studies, 3 in Centre of Theater Film Institutes, 1 each in Centre of Globalization Studies and Centre of Food Technology and 3 each in National Centre of Experimental Mineralogy and Petrology and South Asia and International Study.

For the vacancy of associate professors (readers) in various departments of Arts faculty, AU has invited applications for One position each in department of Ancient History, Anthropology, Arabic Persian, Education, English, Geography, Hindi, Medieval Modern History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Urdu whereas there are Two vacancy in department of Physical Education. Likewise, in the faculty of commerce and law there are One vacancy each at department of Economics and law respectively. In the faculty of Science, there are One position each in Botany, Chemistry, Electronics Communication, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology. At various centres of university, there are Two positions of associate professor at CBCS, K Banerji Centre of Atmospheric Ocean Studies, Centre of Environmental Studies, Centre of Bio-informatics while One position at Centre of Bio-technology, Centre of Globalization Studies and Centre of Food Technology.

Among vacancy of professors in various departments of different faculties there are a total of Five vacancies in Arts faculty, one each in department of Journalism, Music, Physical Education, Sanskrit and Visual Arts. Likewise, there are one vacant positions for professor each at department of CBCS, Bio-informatics, Centre of Bio-technology, Centre of Environmental Studies, Centre of Material Science and Centre of Food Technology.

Along with these, AU authorities have also advertised various positions under non-planned posts under which there are 115 positions of assistant professor (lecturers), 88 positions of associate professor (Reader) and 50 posts of professor.

For the vacancy of assistant professors in various departments of arts faculty there are 1 position each in department of Ancient history, Visual Arts and Anthropology, 3 in Arabic Persian, 5 each in Education and English, 15 in Hindi, 2 in Music, One each in Philosophy, Physical Education and Political Science, 3 each in Psychology and Sanskrit and 4 in Urdu. In commerce faculty there are 7 positions in Commerce Business Administration and 7 in Economics department. At law faculty, there are 4 positions. In the department of science faculty, there are 3 positions in department of Botany, 16 in Chemistry, 9 in Electronics Communication, 2 in Home Science, 5 in Mathematics, 8 in Physics, 1 in Statistics and 7 in Zoology.

Among the vacancy of associate professors (Reader) in various departments of Arts faculty there are 7 positions in Ancient History, 2 Education, 8 in English, 3 in Geography, 8 in Hindi, 4 in Medieval Modern History, 1 in Philosophy, 3 in Political Science, 5 in Psychology, 4 in Sanskrit and 1 in Urdu.

Similarly, there are 32 positions of associate professors in various departments of science faculty and One at CBCS under non-plan posts. Likewise for the vacancy of professors in various departments of arts faculty there are a total of 23 positions along with Four in commerce and Three in law faculty.

Commenting on the issue, the Public relation Officer (PRO) of AU, Prof P K Sahoo said, "Although these positions have been advertised after a long gap but will surly solve the TTR at AU thereby benefiting both the teachers and students alike".
