UHI students enjoy residential course

More than 130 psychology students from the University of the Highlands and Islands enjoyed a five-day residential course last week as part of their degree programme.

The BSc undergraduates usually carry out their degree work through online learning, but this annual event brings them together in Inverness for a shared experience that includes lectures from guest speakers, lab sessions and field trips.

All the work carried out during the course of the residential is displayed on the final day, when it can be appreciated by everyone in attendance.

Wendy Maltinsky, psychology programme leader at the university and a member of the British Psychological Society, explained that that event is valuable in allowing students to connect with classmates that they might previously have only met virtually.

She added: "The final day culminated in a seminar to which psychologists from across the UK were invited, and where first year students demonstrated psychological concepts and third years presented dissertation proposal posters. As one student said: 'I'm exhausted, inspired and excited in equal measure.'"
