Two new therapists join Range Mental Health Center

VIRGINIA – Range Mental Health Center, Inc. announced the addition of two new therapists to the outpatient department in Virginia. Mary Carpenter, RMHC Co-CEO stated that “RMHC is very excited to have two seasoned counselors join our staff. Together, they bring a great deal of experience to our agency.”

Tim Walters, MS, LPC received his MS from Capella University with a major in Counseling Psychology and a BAS in Psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He has worked in the mental health field for nine years, and has enjoyed helping adults and children in the communities of Duluth and Two Harbors. Tim enjoys sports and the outdoors. He is married with two sons, aged 6 and 3, in addition to a golden retriever. Tim grew up in Hibbing and looks forward to working with many families on the Iron Range. He truly enjoys helping people improve their lives and feels RMHC provides him with this opportunity.

Laurel Hillstrom is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and will be working as an outpatient therapist. She works with adults who have a mental health, chemical dependence or cooccurring disorder. She is located at the outpatient clinic in Virginia and provides services on an individual and group basis. She has a dual Master’s degree in Community Counseling and Forensic Psychology from Marymount University.

Hillstrom has been working in the mental health field in different capacities for the past 15 years. She started out as direct care staff working with adolescents in a substance abuse dual diagnosis facility. From there, she worked in group homes serving adults with mental health and/or intellectual disabilities and then moved into an adult case management position. After completing her Master’s degree, she worked as a clinician at a Community Services Board in the state of Virginia, providing a wide range of services from emergency evaluations and crisis intervention counseling to individual and group therapy for both mental health and substance abuse issues.
