According to a novel UCLA analysis, there has been a change in words of 1.5 million American and British books published between 1800 and 2000. According to the research, this change exhibits cultural transformations.

The analysis speaks about the way psychology plays a significant role in building of words and transformations. Present period is marked by humungous urbanization, greater dependence on technology and the extensive availability of formal education.

It states that the world behaves according to the changes in history. So, the psychological shift was witnessed through the increase and decrease of words in the vocabulary. The online edition of the journal Psychological Science speaks about the observations made in language in the past two centuries.

Patricia Greenfield, a distinguished professor of psychology at UCLA has said that psychology has a role to play. It was noticed in this period of transition that the words "choose" and "get" increased in usage in frequency between 1800 and 2000. Further there was a decline in "obliged" and "give".

Authors have expressed that there has been an increase in usage of "feel" and a decline in the use of "act". There has been decrease in the usage of words like obedience," "authority," "belong" and "pray."
