Toddler’s Sense of Humour Researched

These days, toddlers have become subject of a few researchers' study. This time, aim of the experiment is to find the age when children develop sense of humour. The observation of behavior of kids depicted that babies develop sense of humour from the age of 18 months.

The research has been carried by scientists of Cardiff University's School of Psychology. They've been working on the project since last 10 years. This is one of the significant parts of development projects.

Fleshing out details of the study, psychologist Dr Meredith Gattis said, "`when we held a toy animal on top of our heads and giggled, most 19 to 24 month olds realised it was a joke action and copied it". When the researchers held the pen in wrong manner, they were corrected by the children. This was part of the experiment.

So, children learn from surroundings and copy them. This tendency of imitating is called `the King Louie effect'. The reason behind choosing of the name is that the character aped in the Jungle Book who sang: 'I Want To Be Like You'.

The researchers have defined the age when children start imitating others and that is the phase when they start comprehending jokes. Toddlers have curiosity about the happenings around them and researchers want to use the findings for the development of children.
