The next Psychology FM broadcast will look at neuropsychology

The second fortnightly Psychology FM broadcast goes out on the Manchester radio station ALL FM on Wednesday 19 February at 11am and will look at neuropsychology.

These broadcasts, funded by a public engagement grant from the Society, have been put together by Professor Rebecca Lawthorn and PhD student Michael Richards from Manchester Metropolitan University.

They chart the evolution of psychology while shedding light on its modern incarnations, and aim to change people’s perceptions of men with disabilities as the presenters will all have learning difficulties.

The first broadcast, which went out on 5 February, asked ‘What is Psychology?’ and the schedule for the rest of the series is:

  • 5 March – Clinical and counselling psychology
  • 19 March – Health/sport and exercise psychology
  • 2 April – Forensic psychology
  • 16 April – Developmental psychology
  • 30 April – Community and critical psychology
  • 14 May – The way forward for psychology: the Big Society and learning difficulties

Professor Lawthorn says: “We want to explain what, exactly, psychology is and how and what we mean about the different branches of psychology – educational psychology, forensic psychology, neuropsychology and so on.

“The aim is to get people who aren’t familiar with psychology to find out a little bit more about it, to make it accessible and to make it relevant.”
