Q: What advice do you have for someone else thinking about a career in your field?

A: Go for it. My advice would be to get out and start networking and meeting everyone you can. In a sense you are selling yourself, so get out there and let yourself be known. The relationship between a client and a stylist is unique and in order to have a large clientele you have to not only be artistically talented, you have to be a well-rounded, likable person.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I wanted to be a child psychologist or an actress. I am certain now that the only reason I wanted to be an actress is so I could dress up and walk the red carpet.

Q: What kept you from pursuing that vision?

A: I have been known to be very blunt and direct. I am this way because I have a strong passion to always be real and stay true to myself.

I would be a horrible actress because I would feel an internal pull that would be in conflict with my authenticity. It took a long time to figure out exactly who I was, it wouldn't feel right to escape into a different sense of identity.

As far as a child psychologist, I feel like I already am a psychologist at times, so I guess it's never too late.

Q: Where do you see yourself careerwise in 10 years?

A: In 10 years, I will be the partner of the Fort Collins Parlour and potentially another location in south Fort Collins or Loveland. SWING will have spread through the state by then and making its way to be national. Future is looking good.

Q: Outside of work, what's your favorite thing to do and your favorite place to do it?

A: I love to golf, with my husband, with my boys or with friends. Golf is my escape. My favorite course is Mariana Butte in Loveland.

Q: What role does volunteerism/giving back play in your work or personal life?

A: There are so many non- profits in town that touch my heart, and I do my best to give what I can. It is extremely rewarding to surround yourself with other people who have the ability to look at the big picture and dedicate their time and money to something bigger than themselves. I love supporting The Matthews House, Realities for Children and Turning Point.

Q: What role does social media play in your business and how do you utilize it?

A: I use Facebook, mostly for personal use. It is very convenient at times, if I have a cancellation I just post it on FB, and it usually will get filled. It is such a fast way to reach out to people.

Q: What do you do in your leisure time?

A: A date night with my husband may seem cliché but is still my favorite escape. I enjoying golfing, socializing with friends at Ace Gillett's or Cafe Vino, networking through the Chamber, having movie and game nights with all my family, and when all else fails, I love to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and escape into my latest self-help book.
