Study: Chronic lateness is a sign of deeper psychological issues

WASHINGTON - Chronic lateness is more than just a bad habit.

Researchers say a consistently late person is likely not trying to be disrespectful. In fact, the damaging habit may be deeply-rooted in psychology and difficult to stop, reports Yahoo.

A recent study of more than 200 people at San Francisco State University showed 17 percent were chronically late.

Those unable to be punctual displayed similar patterns in behavior including anxiety issues, trouble with self-control and procrastination.

But researchers say the problem -- whether it affects a person personally or professionally -- is not irreversible.

Psychologists recommend those afflicted work diligently to make deadlines non-negotiable, monitor how long it takes to perform certain tasks and always plan to be early.
