On July 30, Wesleyan’s Summer Research Poster Session took place at Exley Science Center. More than 110 undergraduate research fellows from Math and Computer Sciences, Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Quantitative Analysis Center, and Psychology presented research at the event. Aidan Bardos ’17 presented her research titled “The Effects of Nutrition on the Immune Response of Wooly Bear Caterpillars Infected by Parasitoid Wasps.” Bardos’ faculty advisor is Michael Singer, associate professor of biology and associate professor of environmental studies.

A poster titled “Immunohistochemical Analysis of Status Epilepticus Mice Treated with Striatal-Enriched Tyrosine Phosphatase Inhibitor” was presented by Matt Pelton ’17. His advisor is Janice Naegele, professor of biology, professor of neuroscience and behavior.

Roxie Chuang ’17 highlights an important point in her research titled “Asian’s Attitudes Toward Interracial Dating.” Clara Wilkins, assistant professor of psychology, is Chuang’s advisor.

David Schwartz ’17 highlights data on his poster, “The Effects of Intermodal Railroad Development on Labor Market Outcomes.” Schwartz’ advisor is Christiaan Hogendorn, associate professor of economics.

Lisa Kremen ’16 presents her poster, “Comparing Two Compensatory Remediation Strategies for Improving Verbal Memory in Schizophrenia.” Kremen’s advisor is Matthew Kurtz, associate professor of psychology, associate professor of neuroscience and behavior, and chair of the neuroscience and behavior program.

Rebecca Tom ’18 talks about her research, “Optogenetic stimulation of the central amygdala enhances incentive motivation despite adverse consequences.” Tom’s advisor is Mike Robinson, assistant professor of psychology, assistant professor of neuroscience and behavior.

Visiting student Aaron Holmes talks to onlookers about his poster, “Reporter Transgenes Controlled by Bone-specific Medaka Promoters Expressed in Zebrafish (Danio rerio).” Holmes’ faculty advisor is Stephen Devoto, professor of biology, professor of neuroscience and behavior.

Hanna Morales ’17 explains her research, “Syntheses of fluorinated trehalose to test their impact on protein stability.” Morales’ faculty advisor is Erika Taylor, assistant professor of chemistry, assistant professor of environmental studies.

Brandon Baker ’18 presents his research, “Closed Orbits of Hydrogen in Phase Space.” His advisor is Thomas Morgan, Foss professor of physics.

Keith Spencer ’16 presents his poster, “Effects of Scale and Timbre on Identification of Sonified EEG.” His adviser is Psyche Loui, assistant professor of psychology, assistant professor of neuroscience and behavior.

Jane Abolafia ’16 discusses her poster, “Elucidation of the Structural and Functional Integral Membrane State of SecA Motor Protein via Protease Probing.” Zachary Breslin ’16 also assisted with the research. Their advisor is Donald Oliver, Daniel Ayres professor of biology, professor of molecular biology and biochemistry.
