Villa Maria seniors Megan Condello of Wayne, left, and Madeline Hone of West Chester are taking classes at Villanova University, splitting their time between Villa Maria and the university. The students were chosen after submitting applications, essays and teacher recommendations to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Hone is taking international relations and an English course titled ìThe Literary Experience ñ An Existential Journeyî, while Condello is taking psychology and sociology. These courses will count as college credits, giving the students a head start when they begin college next year.

Albright College Scholarships

Adam Dalessandro: a freshman biology/physics/optical physics major from Coatesville, was awarded an Albright College Presidential Scholarship of $80,000 ($20,000 per year) for excellence in academics.

James Allen: a freshman biology major from Elverson, received a Provost’s Scholarship of $70,000 ($17,500 per year) for academic excellence.

Alexandra Trego: a freshman biology major from Coatesville, received a Provost’s Scholarships of $70,000 ($17,500 per year) for academic excellence.

Gabrielle Anello: a freshman fashion/merchandising track major from Devon, received an Alumni Scholarship of $20,000 to $60,000 ($5,000 to $15,000 per year).

Karly Dahlroos: a freshman psychology major from West Chester, received an Alumni Scholarship of $20,000 to $60,000 ($5,000 to $15,000 per year).

Jonathan Duncan: a freshman music industry studies major from Kennett Square, received an Alumni Scholarship of $20,000 to $60,000 ($5,000 to $15,000 per year).

Bates College Study Abroad Program

Daniel Paseltiner: of Devon, spent the fall 2014 semester studying abroad in China as a participant in the CET study abroad program in Beijing. Paseltiner, a 2012 graduate of Stamford High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip J. Paseltiner of Devon. He is majoring in physics and Chinese at Bates.

Charles Hildebrand: of Berwyn, spent the fall 2014 semester studying abroad in Italy as a participant in the Syracuse University program in Florence. Hildebrand, a 2012 graduate of the Berkshire School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hildebrand of Berwyn, Pennsylvania. He is majoring in economics at Bates.

Honors and Awards

Douglas Krysan: a resident of Downingtown, recently received a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre.

Kristyn Beard: of Downingtown, has been accepted to Susquehanna University’s highly selective Honors Program. Beard is a first-year student majoring in mathematics at Susquehanna. Beard is a graduate of Downingtown High School and the daughter of Michael and Donna Beard.

Basil Mokhallalati: of Glenmoore, has been elected as a class senator to Susquehanna University’s Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2014-15 academic year. Mokhallalati, a psychology major in the Class of 2018, is a 2014 graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School and the son of Rim Bakir and Mohamed Mokhallalati.

Lindsay Zajac : of Thornton, daughter of Dennis and Carla Zajac and a 2010 graduate of West Chester Bayard Rustin High School, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in psychology from Bucknell University in May. Zajac, who received the Bucknell Prize in Psychology during commencement weekend, is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society, Mortar Board national college senior honor society and Psi Chi international honor society in psychology. Following graduation, Zajac is a first-year student in The University of Delaware’s clinical psychology doctoral program.

Melanie Hanson: of Lincoln University, a junior theatre major at York College, directed the college’s production of “The Anastasia File.” Performances were held from Nov. 19 - 22.

Kassandra Bugg: of Downingtown, is one of 45 students at Wilkes University who have accepted on-campus leadership roles as resident assistants in campus residence halls where undergraduate students live. Bugg is a resident assistant in the YMCA building. Bugg is studying pharmacy.

Michaela Dettinger: of Exton, represented Lebanon Valley College in the America Youth on Parade (AYOP) in July 2014. Dettinger, a graduate of Bishop Shanahan High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in biology. AYOP is a national competition for the sport of baton twirling hosted at University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. Dettinger competed in the “Down the Field” event against 75 other twirlers from major universities and colleges, earning 7th place. Dettinger also earned the title of Open World Intermediate Solo (2013 2014) and Strut (2014) for her first place wins in these events, fifth place in the pageant, second place in duet, and fourth place in the 2-baton event.
