CANTON A husband-and-wife psychologist team has opened a practice on Main Street.
James E. and Nancy J. Cerio opened their practice at 91 Main St., Suite 200, across the street from the American Theater. The couple has admitting privileges at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.
The Cerios will provide counseling, psychotherapy, hypnosis and psychological evaluations for adults and adolescents.
Mrs. Cerio is licensed to practice psychology in New York and Maryland. She completed her masters degree in counseling at St. Lawrence University and her doctorate in counseling psychology at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. She conducted her psychology internship at the Center for Counseling and Student Development at the University of Delaware, Newark, Del.
She is one of the founding members of Northern Zone Personnel and Guidance Association and has been a counselor and education director at Planned Parenthood of Northern New York, SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton, a counselor and assistant dean at St. Lawrence and an assistant dean at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
Before entering full-time private practice, she worked for seven years at the Towson University Counseling Center in Baltimore.
Mr. Cerio also is licensed to practice psychology in New York and Maryland. He completed his masters degree in counseling at St. Lawrence, his doctorate in counseling psychology at Indiana State and his psychology internship at Counseling and Psychological Services in the Student Health Center at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Mr. Cerio also helped to found the Northern Zone Personnel and Guidance Association while working as a counselor and assistant director of the Student Development Center at Clarkson University, Potsdam. He was a counselor, assistant professor and associate professor of psychology at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md., for nine years before entering full-time private practice.
