Society Fellow receives award

Til Wykes, Professor of Clinical Psychology and Rehabilitation and Vice Dean of Research at the King's College London Institute of Psychiatry, has been granted a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Director's Group Merit Award from the NIMH in the US.

Professor Wykes, a fellow of the British Psychological Society, received the accolade for her work with the Database of Cognitive Training and Remediation Studies (DoCTRS) Development Team, which is hoping its approach to data standardisation and integration will progress training and remediation interventions in schizophrenia.

According to Professor Wykes, during a trip to the US she spent time understanding how a new therapy - cognitive remediation - was being implemented among people with the mental health condition.

She added: "The therapy is aimed in improving skills in memory and concentration as well as giving individuals more confidence in their cognitive abilities, which in turn may remove blocks to recovery."

Professor Wykes dedicated her award to the researchers, therapists and service users who shared their experiences and in turn contributed towards the development of DoCTRS.
