University of South Dakota women’s basketball player Nicole Seekamp (Renmark, South Australia) has been granted a fourth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

Seekamp will be eligible to compete during the 2015-16 season following a two-game withholding.

“I’m ecstatic that I have been given the opportunity to compete with this group of girls,” said Seekamp. “I’m looking forward to improving my game and continuing my education at USD.”

As a result of participating in organized amateur competition in Australia following her high school graduation, Seekamp was originally charged with the loss of one of four seasons of intercollegiate competition. Following the 2014-15 season, USD submitted a waiver on behalf of Seekamp requesting relief from this penalty, which was approved by the NCAA on the condition of Seekamp serving a two-game withholding.

“We are thrilled that Nicole will have the opportunity to compete in a fourth season for the Coyotes,” said South Dakota head women’s basketball coach Amy Williams. “She is an exceptional player, who has led our program in each of these last three seasons. Our program will benefit greatly from having her back on the court for one more year.”

Seekamp is a two-time, first-team all-Summit League honoree and two-time Summit League Tournament Most Valuable Player. She is the seventh-leading scorer in program history with 1,484 points. She also ranks sixth all-time in both assists (396) and steals (176).

Seekamp averaged 15.6 points per game this past season in leading the Coyotes to a 26-8 record and the Summit League regular season championship. South Dakota advanced to the Summit League Tournament final for the third consecutive season and competed in the WNIT where the team scored a first-round win at home against Creighton.

Seekamp will earn her undergraduate degree in psychology on May 9. She will begin work on a master’s degree in clinical psychology this fall.
