Science Advisor appointed for
the Justice sector

Dr Ian Lambie, Associate Professor
in Clinical Psychology at the University of Auckland, has
been appointed to the role of Justice Sector Science
Advisor.

Secretary for Justice Andrew Bridgman said
Dr Lambie would work across the justice sector (Police,
Corrections, Justice, Crown Law, and Serious Fraud Office)
to improve access to and use of evidence in the sector.

“Dr Lambie will help the justice sector to improve the
lives of New Zealanders by advising on the use of best
evidence in our cross sector work to reduce crime,
victimisation and harm," he said.

“We are putting
a lot of focus on using data, research and evidence to
support funding and delivery of justice sector services for
the best outcomes. “

Dr Lambie is Associate
Professor in Clinical Psychology at Auckland University. His
research and clinical specialty is youth offending, and
child and youth forensic psychology and conduct
problems.

He's a member of his profession's
disciplinary tribunal, and on the editorial board of a
number of journals. He's also served on a number of
government advisory committees and held advisory roles to
the Youth Crime Action Plan, Corrections, Police and the
Principal Youth Court Judge.

The role is part of the
network of science advisors established across government by
the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor, Sir Peter
Gluckman.

Dr Lambie will also continue his work at
the University of
Auckland.
