Grayslake

Show: Certified hypnotherapist and comedy hypnotist Cheryl Shagena will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Grayslake North High School, 1925 N. Route 83. The psychology classes are bringing her back for the second year in a row as part of their study of consciousness and its variations. Psychology students will meet with Shagena to discuss therapeutic uses of hypnosis, and she will return that evening for comedy hypnosis. Volunteers can experience hypnosis and entertain the crowd with their hypnotic antics. The show is rated “PG.” Tickets are $7 and proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Open house: Children of residents of Woodland District 50 or Fremont District 79 are eligible to attend Prairie Crossing Charter School. A free, public school, PCCS is accepting registration forms for the 2014-15 school year for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Open houses will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 and Feb. 18 in the Comstock Building of the school, 1531 Jones Point Road. Registration packets are available at the school or can be printed from the school’s website www.prairiecrossingcharterschool.org. Completed registration materials can be mailed or dropped off in the school office during school hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and must be received by 3:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Performance: Woodland Middle School’s Drama Club will present its production of “Busy” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 and 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at the school, 7000 Washington St. The play is a comedy about how life can be so hectic that we don’t have time to “stop and smell the roses” or the hot dogs, as we’ll see when three vendors try to sell their wares on the busy sidewalk of a major city. Open house: Gurnee Park District will be hosting two open houses for its Growing Tree Preschool from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Hunt Club Park, 920 N. Hunt Club Road and from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 at Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave. Whether your child attends the preschool or you are considering enrolling in the upcoming school year, doors will be open to visit the teachers and for preschool children and siblings to see and play in the classrooms. Waukegan

Fundraiser: The Waukegan High School JROTC Drill Team annual spaghetti and taco dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 25 at 2325 Brookside Ave. The event will feature two performances by the Bulldog Drill Team at 1 and 3 p.m., a live DJ and a raffle for a new television. Those who cannot attend the event can have food delivered between 1 and 4 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the drill team and help offset costs of travel to the National High School Drill Team Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., in May.
