EXPERT ADVICE ON CAREER CHOICES

█ I have done BBA with a specialization in Marketing Management. Currently, I'm pursuing Chartered Financial Planner (CFP). Which fields can I work for? Will I get a job on the basis of BBA (Marketing)?

- Ashwin P

It may be bit easier to get job in the marketing field since it's your specialization. But it'll not be relevant to CFP. Try for a job through your CFP institute in finance based on BBA qualification or try for marketing job for some experience. But you should do a job while pursuing your CFP.

█ I have passed class 12 with 70 per cent in PCM. I want to become a fighter pilot in the air force. Which tests or courses should I prepare for?

- Jitu Y

You can become pilot in Indian Air force through NDA. The entrance examination is followed by SSB interview. But there is an age limit and you may not fit the criteria. Alternatively, you can appear for Combined Defense Services (CDS) examination in the last year of graduation. If you clear it and the SSB interview, you can enter the Indian air force as pilot. The written examinations will be on English, arithmetic and general knowledge. Visit upsc.gov.in.

█ I'm studying Arts in class 12 and am keen to pursue psychology. What's its scope in India and USA?

- Aniket Patil

After 12th, you need to do BA with specialization in Psychology. Then there are post graduate degree courses with specializations like Industrial Psychology. There are couple of institutes who run post graduate diploma / certificate courses in School Psychology, Marriage Counseling, Family Counseling, Career Counseling etc. There are various areas in which students can pursue career in psychology like clinical psychology, industrial psychology, consumer psychology, sports psychology and so on with specialized careers available. Students usually prefer Industrial Psychology, which helps in recruitment, training and industrial relations field. For that you have to pursue further education in Human Relations and/ or Labour Law. Psychology students can get career opportunities in fields like teaching, corporate sector, police department, defense, family courts, jails, school/colleges and more.

There are lot of courses in Psycology available in the USA at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. My advice is to go for doctoral level studies in the US, where you get good chances of getting scholarships and tution waivers.

█ I have completed My BSc in Computer Science and right now am pursuing PGDM in Marketing Specialization. I am interested in a career in digital marketing and e-commerce. How should I proceed?

- Nishad Kelkar

As you are currently pursuing PGDM marketing, you should opt for IT / e-Commerce companies through campus placements if your institute has this facility. Alternatively, you may try for the same in open houses conducted by some companies. You should also get enrolled in a couple of online job portals. Make sure your resume highlights your strengths and qualifications.
