Retzloff
Lake Superior State University third-year psychology student Cassidee Retzloff chats with President Tom Pleger in his office after being presented with a citation from the Michigan Tutorial Association that acknowledges her nomination as state tutor of the year. Lake Superior State University third-year psychology student Cassidee Retzloff has been presented with a citation from the Michigan Tutorial Association acknowledging her nomination as state tutor of the year.
Retzloff works at the LSSU Learning Center as a mentor for first-year psych students, and tutors dozens of students a week across several disciplines.
More than a dozen “student first mentors” take groups of freshman of the same major under their wing to improve academic and student life success. The Learning Center employs more than 75 students as tutors to help with individual classes and topics.
This past summer, Retzloff worked as a substitute client-advocate at the Shelterhouse domestic abuse shelter in Midland, and as a job coach at Selective Case Management, also in Midland, where she helped clients with cognitive disabilities find and hold onto jobs.
Both agencies are located near her hometown of Coleman.
Retzloff plans to go on to grad school after LSSU graduation.
