Renowned Psychologist to Speak at Blinn College



Renowned psychologist Dr. Carol Tavris will host question-and-answer sessions with students on Blinn Colleges Brenham and Bryan campuses Wednesday, April 15.



BRYAN - Renowned psychologist Dr. Carol Tavris will host question-and-answer sessions with students on Blinn College’s Brenham and Bryan campuses Wednesday, April 15.

Tavris will speak with students at 1:30 p.m. in the Janis Sneed Banquet Room inside the Brenham campus Student Center (map). Tavris will speak on at 4:30 p.m. at College Park Center Room 106 on the Bryan campus (map). Both events are free and open to the public.

Tavris’ work as a writer, teacher and lecturer has been devoted to educating the public about psychological science. Tavris holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan, and has taught psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles and the New School for Social Research. She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science and the Center for Inquiry. Her articles, book reviews and opinion pieces have appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and other publications.

Division of Social Sciences Instructor Debbie Horn said she is looking forward to asking is about Tavris’ book, “The Mismeasure of Women,” which argues in favor of egalitarian feminism and against theories that advocate biological reductionism to explain differences between men and women. The book won the 1992 Distinguished Media Contribution Award from the American Association for Applied and Preventative Psychology.

“Those that attend will have a renewed respect for science and critical thinking,” Horn said.
